Data Sharing and Accessibility
At Academia Publications, we are committed to ensuring transparency, reproducibility, and the highest standards of research integrity. To promote open science and facilitate collaboration, we encourage authors to share their raw data and provide clear data availability statements.
Encouraging Authors to Share Raw Data
We strongly encourage authors to make the raw data underlying their research publicly available whenever possible. By sharing the raw data, authors enable others in the scientific community to verify, replicate, and build upon their findings. This enhances the credibility and impact of the research. Authors are encouraged to submit data that supports the conclusions of the article, particularly for data-driven research such as in fields like biomedical science, social sciences, and computational studies.
While we recommend data sharing, we understand there may be legitimate reasons for withholding certain types of data (e.g., privacy concerns, ethical restrictions, or proprietary data). In such cases, authors must provide a clear explanation for why data cannot be shared.
Data Availability Statements and Repositories
As part of the submission process, authors are required to include a Data Availability Statement outlining how the data supporting their research can be accessed. If the data is available, authors should specify the repository or database where it is stored. Commonly used data repositories include:
- Public Repositories: Such as Zenodo, Dryad, or Figshare, which provide open access to datasets.
- Institutional Repositories: Authors may also deposit data in their university’s or institution’s repository.
- Supplementary Files: In cases where data cannot be deposited in a public repository, authors may include supplementary data files alongside their publication, clearly stating the conditions under which others can access them.
If the data is not publicly available, the author must provide details on how the data can be requested, or provide justification for withholding the data (e.g., privacy concerns, confidentiality agreements).
This policy ensures that the research is accessible and verifiable, promoting scientific progress while maintaining respect for ethical considerations.
